Arlington Memorial Gardens Association, Incorporated is an Ohio 501(c)(13) nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to operate a cemetery. This special nonprofit status is reserved for corporations absent a view to financially benefit any private individual or group of private individuals. While the nonprofit status explicitly prohibits profit for private gain through the distribution of net earnings, it does not categorically rule out or prohibit profits resulting from sound business practices provided that such earnings are subsequently reinvested in the operation of the cemetery to further serve and facilitate its mission to preserve the cemetery in perpetuity.
It is the nonprofit corporation that owns, controls and manages the cemetery through and by a Board of Trustees whose members are responsible for developing and implementing governing policies. The Board of Trustees consists of a group of community-minded leaders who serve six year terms and nominate and elect new members to fill vacancies. To promote the efficient operation of the cemetery, the Board elects officers who are responsible for managing the cemetery on a day-to-day basis. The officers in turn appoint and/or hire a staff of employees to carry-out the daily functions. It is through this method of organization that Arlington Memorial Gardens conducts its business as a cemetery.
